It's about: I was very excited to get an email asking if I would review this very unique book, Thumbing Through Thoreau. It isn't like any other books we've reviewed on here -- it's a collection of some of American transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau's most quotable quotes, taken from Walden and Civil Disobedience and also some of his journals and letters. Separated into three sections -- (Society & Government, Spirituality & Nature, and Love) -- each quotation is accompanied by a black and white nature illustration by Jay Luke and Ren Adams, created specifically for this book.
Here is the book trailer for your viewing pleasure:
I thought: All in all, I thought Kenny Luck chose a great collection of Thoreau's quotes, and his dedicated search of Thoreau's various works appears to have been done thoroughly and with the proper amount of reverence and respect for one of America's most influential writers. The nature of the illustrations stays true to the spirit of Thoreau, though just as a personal preference, I preferred the light, almost Japanese styled illustrations of Ren Adams to the more heavy-handed drawings by Jay Luke. For the nature lover, this visually pleasing collection would make an excellent coffee table book.
Verdict: Stick it on the shelf
Warnings: None
