Top Ten Tuesday: Christina's 2011 Favorites

Thanks to Mint Tea and A Good Book for the pretty picture!
Are we really so close to the end of this year? I guess so, because today's Top Ten Tuesday topic is: Favorite Books of 2011. Huzzah!

[in no particular order]

1. The Marriage Plot (I know, I know, I'm like a broken record.)

2. The Virgin Suicides

3. The Instructions

4. The Cider House Rules

5. Quarantine

6. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Technically this was an audiobook for me, and an excellent one at that.  The link is to Connie's review.)

7. Ahab's Wife

8. Dance of the Happy Shades

9. The Elegance of the Hedgehog

10. Caleb's Crossing

Hm... it's interesting, looking back, how I view some books with sort of a rosy glow of memory; I like them more now than I really did when I reviewed them. I find myself thinking things like "What? I only gave Ahab's Wife four stars on goodreads?? What was I thinking?!" Funny how memory works.

Anyway, here's to 2012 and a new year full of rosy memories and wicked awesome books! Happy New Year, people!

Yay, The Marriage Plot! I have a feeling that's going to be a popular one today (to which I also say, yay!)
Love this list - I have The Marriage Plot waiting to be read, and seeing as how so many people loved it, I hope to get to it very soon.
The Virgin Suicides and The Elegance of the Hedgehog are fantastic reads, I read them both last year and absolutely loved them. Great list!

Here's my Top Ten list!
I loved The Cider House Rules when I read it a few years ago...love some John Irving. I must read Eugenides or else accept that I've been left out of a literary phenomenon ;) Great list!
I'm hoping I have time to re-read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close before the movie comes out. I absolutely loved that one.

I would really like to re-read it, too. I don't think it sunk in as well, as an audiobook, as it would have if I had read it in the traditional way. There were so many things about it that I loved, and now (only a week later) I can't remember many of them.
Oh, I'd love to hear what you think of Middlesex, tMP, and tCHR! Sounds like you have a year of good reading to look forward to.
Heading over to check out your list now...
Your list look s like my TBR! The upcoming release of the Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close movie might motivate me to read that one and I really want to read The Marriage Plot before I go back to work in January.

Yeah, the movie was what motivated me to finally pick up EL&IC, and I'm so glad I did! I'd love to hear what you think of it. TMP, too.
Totally loved 1, 2, 4, and 6, but could not get into The Elegance of the Hedgehog. And I wanted to so badly! It happens :)

You know, I had a really hard time getting into it for the first... oh... probably the first half. But it was a really rewarding read, and I find myself liking it more the more I think about it. Maybe I'll reread it someday so that I can enjoy the beginning more.
I loved very much The Elegance of The Hedgehog - the movie too is superb! here is my recap: http://wordsandpeace.com/2011/12/30/year-of-readi...

Oh, I really want to see the movie!
The Marriage Plot is the next book on our list. Glad to see it is one of your top ten. Any books you would recommend for our once a year couples meeting? We are looking for a book that both men and women will enjoy and that is not too long for our husbands!

Ooh, The Marriage Plot is a great choice for a book club. I'm not sure what else I could recommend, since I don't exactly know the people you'll be reading with. Here are a couple that both I and my husband read and enjoyed:
Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
